On December 5, 2009, ABC's 20/20 did an investigative report on how tanning salons are downplaying the risks associated with indoor tanning beds. Predictably, the majority of the posted comments that followed the show were from tanning salon owners that attacked the story (and credited the massive conspiracy against them by doctors).
A great deal of research, as well as a number of world health organizations, support restrictions on indoor tanning. For the past three legislative sessions in Massachusetts a bill that would restrict minors use of tanning beds has not made it to the floor for a vote.
What will it take for legislators to recognize and act on this public health issue.
